Elysee Dental Solutions gains cost control while maintaining business continuity with IBM Cloud
Ahead of a contract renewal for its virtualization platform, Elysee Dental Solutions reviewed its options and looked for a reliable platform that would protect both operational continuity and long-term cost control. The dental technology provider migrated 30 virtual machines to Proxmox Virtual Environment on IBM Cloud infrastructure in a carefully structured project completed without interruption of its business operations.
Headquartered in Alphen aan den Rijn in the Netherlands, Elysee Dental Solutions provides dental professionals with prosthetics and digitally enabled solutions. Since its founding in 2001, the company has built an IT environment that plays an important role in supporting its daily operations and the delivery of modern dental services. As its virtualized workloads platform approached the end of its existing contract, the company assessed whether to renew (with substantially higher virtualization costs following a price increase) or to move to a different platform.
For Elysee Dental Solutions, the decision could not be based on cost alone. Any replacement had to support its business-critical workloads reliably, preserve performance, and allow the company to migrate without interrupting daily operations.
Regaining control over virtualization costs
The upcoming contract renewal created a clear strategic choice: absorb the increased costs or move to a different virtualization platform. Elysee Dental Solutions also wanted to gain greater flexibility over the future development of its infrastructure. Bossers & Cnossen assessed the existing environment, which consisted of 3 hosts and 30 virtual machines, and recommended Proxmox Virtual Environment as a mature and cost-effective alternative. The platform offered the capabilities required for the existing workloads while giving Elysee Dental Solutions a more flexible foundation for future infrastructure decisions. The move was therefore more than a platform replacement. It was an opportunity to establish a virtualization strategy with greater control over costs, technology choices, and future development.
A stable alternative built around Proxmox Virtual Environment
Bossers & Cnossen designed the new environment around 4 IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers running Proxmox Virtual Environment. Shared IBM Cloud Block Storage was connected to the hosts, providing centralized storage for the migrated workloads. Each host is equipped with substantial RAM, multiple Intel Xeon processors, RAID 1 operating system disks, and high-speed network connectivity. This configuration provides the capacity and performance required for the 30 virtual machines while creating room for continued optimization and future development. The architecture allowed Elysee Dental Solutions to replace its existing environment without compromising the stability or performance of the workloads supporting its operations.
Implementation and technical architecture
The project began with an assessment of the existing environment, including the hosts, virtual machines, application dependencies, and migration requirements. Based on this inventory, Bossers & Cnossen prepared a controlled migration plan designed to minimize operational risk.
The new environment includes:
4 IBM Cloud Bare Metal Servers running Proxmox Virtual Environment
192 GB of RAM per host
2 × 2.3 GHz Intel Xeon processors per host
RAID 1 operating system disks
10 Gbps network connectivity
Shared IBM cloud Block Storage
30 virtual machines migrated from existing virtualization platform
Post-migration validation, monitoring, and optimization
After installing and configuring Proxmox Virtual Environment, the project team connected the shared storage and migrated the virtual machines in a planned sequence. Dependencies between business applications and virtual machines were reviewed in advance, and critical activities were scheduled carefully to protect daily operations. The migration was completed over an extended implementation period. Throughout the project, Elysee Dental Solutions and Bossers & Cnossen maintained close communication and monitored the environment after each migration step. All 30 virtual machines were transferred successfully. The company experienced no disruption during or after the migration, and the systems supporting its daily operations remained available throughout the project. The implementation also highlighted the importance of detailed preparation. A complete inventory of the previous environment helped the project team reduce risk at every stage.
Continuity without the price increase
The new platform has delivered the two outcomes that mattered most to Elysee Dental Solutions: a stable virtualization environment and better control over future costs. By completing the migration before the contract renewal, the company met its cost objectives while maintaining the performance and availability required by its business. The migrated workloads are running reliably, and the environment provides a strong foundation for future infrastructure development.
The organization now has greater flexibility to shape its virtualization strategy according to its own technical and business priorities.
Proxmox Virtual Environment gave us a stable and cost-effective alternative. Together with Bossers & Cnossen, we completed the migration without interruption for our users and now have a virtualization platform that performs well and is ready for the future.Eelco Gulpen, CFO, Modern Dental Europe
The successful transition demonstrates that a change of virtualization platform can be carried out with close attention to business continuity. With careful planning and a structured implementation, Elysee Dental Solutions was able to meet its cost objectives while keeping its operations stable throughout the migration.
Preparing the platform for its next phase
Elysee Dental Solutions and Bossers & Cnossen will continue to monitor and optimize the environment as requirements evolve. One possible next step is the evaluation of Proxmox Backup Server. The company currently uses B&C Managed Back-up. Proxmox Backup Server is not yet part of the environment, but Bossers & Cnossen has gained positive experience with the solution and considers it a logical option for further strengthening backup integration. With the migration complete, Elysee Dental Solutions has replaced an expiring virtualization contract with a stable, performant, and more flexible platform. The result is an infrastructure foundation that supports current operations without disruption and gives the organization greater control over what comes next.
